I have been a practising dentist since 2004, when I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in dental surgery. I have been servicing the local Drouin community with smile makeovers, paediatric and family dentistry since 2012, when I joined Drouin Dental alongside my husband, Dr Tejas Patel.
Over the years, I have come to appreciate the privilege that comes with our patients entrusting to us the importance of their dental health and hygiene. It really is a privilege – and with that comes a sense of responsibility to act with honesty, integrity and impartial advice at all times. Over time, I believe this has been the key to retaining a long roll of happy patients, along with attracting new clients as our little business, thankfully, continues to grow.
So what makes a good dentist? I think the key is to listen, to understand our patient’s needs and budget, and to recommend the best possible solution sensitive to these conditions. I think it’s important to take the time to explain things to our patients thoroughly, prior to and during treatment, as I have found this often alleviates patient anxiety.
I am most proud to be a mother of two, wife and business owner rolled into one, and to be able to choose to hire local talent wherever possible. To encourage young people through work experience, and to make people smile. When you are in the business of smiles – I am happy to say that every day is a good day.
